Let’s see, what’s new? I have just enough time for a random bullet post.
- We have pressure washed the house, the sidewalk, the patio and the driveway (all concrete–except for the house, of course). We have spread new mulch. We have re-painted the little back porch/stoop off of the kitchen.
- I got the prettiest reusable shopping bag at Earth Fare yesterday! It beats my cheap Harris Teeter and Ingles ones, although it cost a lot more, too. But it would easily double as a regular tote bag. It will go into the rotation with the cheap ones and make me a happier shopper. (Even though I always have to explain to the baggers what they are, and what to do with them.)
- Both of my kids have been sick since Friday. DJ has strep, and it has really been rough on him. AJ has a sinus infection that has had stomach-irritating side effects. (Yesterday I actually caught her puke in my bare hand. Has anyone else done that? My husband almost lost his own lunch when he saw me do it, but truly, it was my first instinct. I didn’t even think about it, just stuck my hand out there and caught it.) I haven’t been feeling great either, but the worst (fever, aches, chills) was over the weekend. I seem to be on the mend.
- I’m rapidly closing in on the end of my May Day socks. It will be a close one, but I do think I will finish them on time. I just finished the gusset decreases on sock number two.
(I never would have painted it in the first place, but we inherited it that way.)
We have replaced some sorry-looking shrubs. We have packed up items that were clogging up our closets and hauled them off to storage. Did the same with a lot of the stuff that was cluttering up the kitchen drawers and cabinets. And the toys; many of them are packed and stored, too. We have vacuumed baseboards and ceiling corners and anything else that needed it. Washed windows. I know there must be more, but that’s everything I can think of right now. Our house hasn’t looked this good in five years! So, bring on the buyers.
So, what’s new with you?

Gosh - I’m sorry you guys aren’t feeling well. Good luck on the house selling. How’s the market out there?

I wanted to tell you that I hear your pain on the shopping bag saga. I have been using them for about a year now, and every time I give them to the bagger I have to keep an eye on how they do it. THey tend to put all the heavy stuff in ONE bag. Like 4 - 2 liter bottles of soda.
I keep thinking I need to talk to the manager and ask him to do a class for them all on how to pack those bigger bags as compared to the smaller, skimpier plastic bags.
They’ll get it eventually I guess. I hope.
Have a good week. And I hope y’all feel better.

I’m almost finished with the decreases on sock number two too! I should be knitting now since I have both hands free, but I am habing more fun reading about what everyone else is knitting…

I haven’t used any reusable bags yet, but I wonder if the check-out people will think I’m stealing something from the store if I make them too cute! That one sure is nice.

Our Publix baggers do a good job with the reusable bags. And I’ve seen many people using them.
I’m sorry you’re sick. I had some sinus thing going on with aches and chills, too. Fortunately that’s done and I just have a runny nose and some congestion now. Fortunately, I’ve never had to catch puke. :) Hey, that would make a good name for a heavy metal band - Catching Puke. :)
Your house is going to look so great! I love your little back porch.

After reading about all the spring cleaning you have done, I feel bad. I really need to do more around here!

Hmm, I can’t recall ever catching puke in my hands. You’re pretty fast to do that! Easier to wash your hands than clean it out of a rug. I hope you all feel better soon!
I keep thinking about making myself some reusable bags, but haven’t done so yet. I should though.
The socks look great! You are almost there! Go! Go! Go! :)

I just finished my socks tonight, thank goodness! They’re blocking now.
It sounds like you’re making great progress on your house, good luck with the selling!

Yes. Yes I have. I think I mark it as both of my most traumatic and yet cool moments in baby-sitting.
Good luck on the house-selling. My Realtor actually had to lend me furniture to sell my house…
