I mentioned some “highlights of my Christmas gifts” the other day. Well, don’t let me forget my friend Beth. She sent my whole family a box o’ goodies that was just so much fun! First, a bag of super-dark Ghirardelli chocolate. And a box of nesting snowflake cookie cutters, which I have already used and are So Cool. And a Veggie Tales movie and Christmas CD (which is hilarious) for D & A. But the real highlight?

Sorry for the lame camera phone photo, but DJ has been away at grandma’s and I haven’t been able to take a decent photo of them together yet. This one was snapped real quick so we could send a “thank you” message to Beth. Anyway, they love their aprons. They’re reversible, fully lined, and make them feel so special! AJ got a play kitchen for Christmas, and they have spent the last few days playing “restaurant”, wearing their aprons and serving their animal friends at the playroom table.
Good times, good times. Thanks, Beth!
That’s the refrain around here lately. “I wanta do it allbymyself.” AJ has dressed herself two mornings in a row (pulling her clothes on right over her soggy wet pull-ups). Here’s my favorite, although visually arresting, combination.
She says the shirt and pants match, which, of course they do. But as Stacy and Clinton would say, they don’t go. The stuffed peep, however, is a smashing accessory for either top or bottom.
Who says there is nothing pretty to look at in the wintertime? Our houseplant begonia (B. Lucerna) is blooming. My favorite neighbor gave this plant to me as a cutting last fall, and since then I have cut it back twice and rooted the cuttings for my mom and MIL. It blooms throughout the year and looks so pretty in the kitchen.
Also just budding is my older of two Christmas cacti. This one usually blooms at Thanksgiving and continues to bloom until Easter, but this year it was late.
We have another Christmas cactus that (again) my favorite neighbor started for us from cuttings. It had one bloom last year, so I’m hoping that it will show me something good this year! So far, though, it just has a lot of new green. I never did get my amaryllis bulb out of storage and set it in a pot, so I guess I will leave it there until next year. (Hopefully next Christmas will be less crazy!)
I don’t know about anyone else, but–as usual–I am very relieved that Christmas is over. Wheeeeeeeew. That’s me uttering a big sigh o’ relief. We had a nice one, quiet, and now if we can just get rid of the food and candy that everyone gave us, we can look forward to the new year without bringing a few extra pounds with us. (I still have the little gingerbread houses, because D & A would notice if I tossed them, but I threw mine out.)
Some highlights of my Christmas gifts included a copy of Barbara Walker’s first Treasury (thanks, Mom & Dad!), a gift certificate to my LYS and a gift certificate to my LQS (hub did good!), some awesome handspun yarn from my SIL, a knitted scarf from my 1o year-old niece (so sweet), and this cutie mug, also from my husband.
I have an appreciation for owls, thanks to my college career as a Chi Omega. And this one came from a local pottery studio that makes the neatest things. I have a small collection of their work now, after my husband found them a few years ago. Add the owl mug to my candle sticks, small votive holder, egg separator, mixing bowl and chip/dip platter, and you can see that we love the place.
Another highlight of our Christmas arrived yesterday in the mail from Publix Preschool Pals: snowman glasses.
They turn Christmas lights into snowmen!
Isn’t that the coolest?
I mentioned that AJ lost one of her stripy mittens at Kohl’s, and that I was knitting her a new one. You can guess what happened next.
That’s right, they called and said they found it, two weeks later. No matter! Now she can afford to lose one (but, according to the laws of nature, probably won’t).
Also. Remember I posted about our new front-loading washer, and mentioned that I was a little sad I wouldn’t be able to felt in it?

Well, that right there is evidence to the contrary. Once upon a time, that was a sock knitted for baby AJ*** with my Jaywalker leftovers. She can’t wear these socks anymore, but she had been using one as a sleeping bag for her little iTurtle that she got at BK. Then, the other day it was mistakenly tossed into the wash, on the sanitary setting, because someone is still not potty trained and made a mess during her quote-unquote naptime. Lovely. Anyway, now it’s a nice little Christmas tree ornament.
***I just get all sentimental when I look at that mother-daughter photo.
